Numerous Industries require their products to be packaged and transported to all corners of the world. The packaging should be consistent in order for it to be easily stacked and ensure protection against damage from impact and external influences, previously requiring the use of wooden boxes and crates.
 
With the worldwide use of sea containers there is an ever increasing pressure to ensure that shipping heights are reduced and that goods are able to endure the rigors of transport. As a result, there have been remarkable improvements in the development of 2 and 3 layer corrugated cardboards resulting in the use of solid cardboard container boxes strapped to pallets in place of wooden crates.
 
It is customary for warehouses to stack product, without racking, four or five loads high. The large pallet boxes are usually the same size as the pallet and often protected by a wooden lattice placed on the top. The total package is secured by strapping, with two straps usually being sufficient to stabilise the load.
