Sustainability

We have been innovating for over a century and we believe in thinking unconventionally, challenging and questioning everything to come up with the best solutions for our customers.

In June of 2024, Cyklop Spain full commissioned their manufacturing plant with solar panels in Les Franqueses, Barcelona. This was an impressive step towards energy self-sufficiency, managing to cover 70% of the company’s consumption at peak sun hours at full capacity. With this initiative, Cyklop promotes energy self-consumption by limiting the use of air conditioners, significantly contributes to the reduction of our carbon footprint, and creates a more comfortable environment for office and production employees.

The Cyklop plan in Germany is ISO 50001 certified (energy management). The energy team regularly meets every month to discuss the various aspects of energy consumption and energy data that have been identified and to discuss further improvement activities.

In 2020, the team set the specific energy consumption for the year as a baseline & defined corresponding targets. Since then, they have been able to reduce the specific energy consumption for PET production by 50%, primarily through organizational actions. In addition, they have implemented technical measures, such as heat recovery.

In 2022, the team set out to recover wasted heat from the PET strapping production facility and heat the 5,000 m² logistics hall. This resulted in saving approximately 350,00 kWh of heating energy per year, which was previously generated by burning heating oil.

Cyklop manufactures PET (polyethylene terephthalate) for strapping material in Italy and Malaysia. We collect upwards of 18,000 tons of plastic per year to turn into straps. Our PET straps are made of 80% recycled material and are 100% recyclable after use.

In 2022, a customer who consciously and economically disposes of waste generated from production activities invited Cyklop to be part of this project, providing a destination for the PET strapping waste collected/used by its manufacturing units. They send the discarded straps from its production process to Cyklop. After regulated inspecting, grinding and selecting of the materials, 90% is used as raw material for the manufacture of new strapping rolls that is then returned to the customer for them to use within their manufacturing.
